Samuel Newcome was born in 1759 in Northern Ireland and served as a Private in the 10th Pennsylvania Line under Colonel Hubley in Sample's Company. He served from April 9, 1777 to January 27, 1781.

During this time the 10th Pennsylvania fought at the Battle of Brandywine, Battle of Paoli, Battle of Germantown, Battle of Monmouth, Battle of Springfield, and Battle of Bull's Ferry.

He is buried here at North Findley Street Cemetery in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
