De Veurnse kunstenaar Brecht Ledene maakte deze buste van de Nieuwpoortse oorlogsheld Hendrik in opdracht van het stadsbestuur op voorstel van de Nieuwpoortse cultuurraad.
Hiermee krijgt de ex-binnenschipper Geeraert de erkenning die hij verdient. Hij speelde namelijk een belangrijke rol bij de onderwaterzetting van de polders, waardoor de opmars van de Duitsers tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog gestopt kon worden.

The artist Brecht Ledene from Veurn made this bust of the war hero Hendrik from Nieuwpoort by order of the city council on the proposal of the Nieuwpoort council of culture.
Herewith the ex-barge master Geeraert gets the recognition he deserves. For he played an important role in the flooding of the polders, by which the advance of the Germans during the First World War could be stopped.
