Meredith Wilson grew up in this neighborhood of Mason City. The monument is next to his boyhood home. Many of the scenes in the musical were taken from memories of life in this neighborhood including the footbridge over the creek and the pool hall around the corner.

The monument reads,
"The Music Man"
The musical score resounds the spirit of "River City".
A tribute to the community of Mason City from the creator composer.
Meredith Wilson
May 18, 1902 - June 15, 1984
"May the Good Lord Keep and Bless You"
A generous heart is his legacy. He made music and grew to manhood on this
very ground. Then ventured from his small town home for the big city, achieving fame and fortune, but never forgetting his roots and friends. As he
shared with the world his deep love and talent for music, he invited all into
his friendship through his masterpiece. He gave us "The Music Man".

For many years the famed Iowa sculptor Cliff Carlson, dreamed of this tribute
to Meredith Wilson for Mason City. The dream is now fulfilled through his
friend and fellow sculptor Paul Rieffer.

A gift from Tiena J. Zbornik"
