NL In het noorden van Hilversum ligt de Siriusstraat. De straat is genoemd naar de ster Sirius. Ook grappig dat de straat parallel loopt aan de Orionstraat en dat Sirius ook als metgezel van Orion beschouwd wordt.

Sirius (alpha Canis Majoris) is de helderste ster van de nachtelijke sterrenhemel. Met een schijnbare helderheid van -1,46 is hij bijna dubbel zo helder als Canopus, de helderste ster na hem. Omdat Sirius de helderste ster is van het sterrenbeeld Grote Hond (Canis Major) staat hij ook bekend als de Hondsster. Andere namen zijn Canicula en Aschere. Met een afstand van 8,6 lichtjaar is Sirius na de Zon het op zes na dichtstbijzijnde stersysteem. Deze ster maakt deel uit van de Winterzeshoek.

Sirius (alpha Canis Majoris) is the brightest star in the night sky. With an apparent brightness of -1.46, it is almost twice as bright as Canopus, the brightest star after it. Because Sirius is the brightest star of the Great Dog constellation (Canis Major), it is also known as the Dog Star. Other names are Canicula and Aschere. At 8.6 light-years away, Sirius is the sixth closest star system to the Sun. This star is part of the Winter Hexagon.
