NL In het noorden van de stad Hilversum ligt de Orionlaan. De straat ligt aan de rand van het natuurgebied Zuiderheide en is een populaire startplek voor wandelingen en fietstochten de natuur in.

Orion (afkorting Ori) is een opvallend sterrenbeeld aan de hemelequator, liggende tussen rechte klimming 4u4m en 6u35m en tussen declinatie -11° en +23°. In de Griekse mythologie was Orion een jager die de Plejaden achtervolgde. Hij werd door Artemis per ongeluk gedood en daarna tot sterrenbeeld verheven. In de Egyptische mythologie was Orion de god Osiris, verbeeld als een man die vertwijfeld achterom kijkt. Nadat hij is vermoord door zijn jaloerse broer Seth, vormde zijn lichaamsvocht eind juli de Nijloverstroming. Isis, de weduwe van Orion is wanhopig naar het lijk van haar man op zoek en volgt hem op de voet als Sirius, de Hondsster.

Op het noordelijk halfrond is Orion in de winter niet te missen. Hij lijkt op een zandloper met linksboven de heldere ster Betelgeuze, een rode superreus, rechtsboven Bellatrix, rechtsonder Rigel, een blauwe superreus en tevens de helderste ster van Orion, en linksonder Saiph. In het midden lopen de drie vrijwel even heldere sterren Alnitak, Alnilam en Mintaka (?, e en d Orionis) schuin als een riem naar rechts omhoog. Samen worden ze daarom de Gordel van Orion, Driekoningen of Jakobsstaf genoemd. Aan de gordel hangt zijn zwaard, de nevel M42, met de sterren Hatysa en Mizan Batil I (44 en 42 Orionis). Links bevindt zich Sirius, iets onder de verlengde lijn door de riem. Sirius is na de zon de helderste ster aan de hemel en maakt deel uit van het sterrenbeeld Canis Major, de grote jachthond van Orion. Mintaka ligt vrijwel op de hemelequator.
ENG The Orionlaan is located in the north of the city of Hilversum. The street is located on the edge of the Zuiderheide nature reserve and is a popular starting point for walks and cycling trips into nature.

Orion (ori for short) is a prominent constellation on the celestial equator, lying between right ascension 4h4m and 6h35m and between declination -11° and +23°. In Greek mythology, Orion was a hunter who chased the Pleiades. He was accidentally killed by Artemis and then raised to the constellation. In Egyptian mythology, Orion was the god Osiris, depicted as a man looking back in despair. After being murdered by his jealous brother Seth, his bodily fluids formed the Nile flood in late July. Desperate for her husband's corpse, Isis, the widow of Orion, follows closely as Sirius, the Dog Star.

In the Northern Hemisphere, Orion is not to be missed in winter. It resembles an hourglass with the bright star Betelgeuse at the top left, a red supergiant, Bellatrix at the top right, Rigel at the bottom right, a blue supergiant also Orion's brightest star, and Saiph at the bottom left. In the center, the three nearly equally bright stars Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka (?, e, and d Orionis) slant up to the right in a belt. Together they are therefore called the Belt of Orion, Epiphany or Jacob's Rod. From the belt hangs his sword, the nebula M42, with the stars Hatysa and Mizan Batil I (44 and 42 Orionis). Sirius is on the left, slightly below the extended line through the belt. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky after the sun and is part of the constellation Canis Major, Orion's great hunting dog. Mintaka is almost on the celestial equator.
