After millennia of occupation by native Americans, Kansas became the colony of New France. Traded back and forth with Spain and finally sold to the United States as part of the Louisiana purchase, the area remained occupied by native tribes until the intrusion of settlers in the 1860's. Scott City was established 1885 with agriculture as the main occupation. The current population is 4113.
