[FR] D’après une étude réalisée en 1991, l’aqueduc daterait de l’époque romaine pour sa partie la plus ancienne.
L’utilisation de briques dans la confection des voûtes d’arches a permis de retenir une date de construction entre 220 et 270 après J-C. Toutefois, cet ouvrage a fait l’objet de réparations tout au long des siècles, allongeant l’édifice jusqu’à ses dimensions actuelles.
En effet, au IIIème siècle après J.-C., un ouvrage enjambait déjà le lit de l'Agly. Ce fleuve côtier s'appelait alors le Sordus et se jetait dans le Stagnum Sordicen, l'actuel Etang du Barcarès.
Il ne reste de ce simple pont romain que les vestiges d'un arc construit en brique sur la rive droite.
