Troy Alvin Driggers was one of the first drum majors for the UCF Marching Knights. Alongside fellow drum major Ken DeBord and director Jerry Gardner, Driggers led the band in 1980 for its first performances.

Two years later, Driggers died in a car accident. The marching band dedicated the 1983 season in his honor with a special pin, which continues to be worn by the band to this day, albeit with some changes.

In addition, the marching band's practice field was renamed Driggers Field, which is referenced on the memorial plaque.
The plaque on the monument reads:

Driggers Field
Honoring the UCF Marching Band's First Drum Major
Troy Alvin Driggers
1962 - 1982
"Strive For the Highest"
