East Bernard is a small community in northeast Wharton County, Texas. The state historical marker for their first school is one of at least two state historical markers which have been relocated to the Wharton County Museum at 3615 N. Richmond Rd. in Wharton.

Marker Text:
Built 1888 a mile north of town (so trains would not disturb). Moved to town, 1892. Making way for new two – story school, was sold and moved 1895 by Herman W. Koym.

Used since for gristmill, blacksmith shop, storage.
