The sculptor got it wrong when he worked the epitaph on the Woodmen of the World monument marking the final resting place of Sidney Grubbs in historic Snyder Cemetery, Snyder, TX.

It's not even faux Middle English -- we likely would have seen "thy" instead of "your" if that was the attempt -- and we'll never know where the sculptor got that extra [e]. This is a common tree trunk monument placed by the Woodmen of the World, with the tools of the woodmen -- the hatchet, mallet, and wedge -- above a Dove of Peace, and the inscription scroll reads:

Sidney Grubbs

Born
Dec. 18, 1887

Died
Nov. 17, 1907

----

Sleep on dear brother
and take your rest,
God calles away
When he thinks best.
