West Springfield artist John Matlock specializes in marine theme murals. He has several such murals in West Springfield. The one at Merrick Station is about 60' long and 7' high. It features eight stylized fresh water tropical fish within an L-shape magenta frame against a black background. The first two fish on the left are cichlids. The remaining six fish are bettas which come in a variety of colors and are characterized by their large showy fins.

The two cichlids are predominately blue and yellow respectively. The bettas are, from left to right, predominately red, red with blue fins, blue with yellow fins, green with blue fins, purple, blue and red.
