"History
Its origins are found in the Popular Library of Vigo, created by order of the Ministry of National Education in 1942 . Initially installed in the Plaza de Compostela, it would remain under the name of Jaime Solá Public Library until 1979, the year in which it was moved to a new location on Romil Street. Years later, the Vigo City Council decided to buy the Ferro Building , starting the rehabilitation works to install the library there. In 1995 the current headquarters was inaugurated and it was renamed the Central Public Library of Vigo.
On October 28, 2013, the city council decided to change the name to Vigo Juan Compañel Public Library, in honor of the Galician publisher, printer and journalist.
