"Fridolín Machácek galt in der Ersten Tschechoslowakischen Republik als vorbildlicher patriotischer Intellektueller: Der Direktor des Pilsener Stadtmuseums war Historiker, Archivar, Museologe, Denkmalschützer, Heimatforscher, Kulturförderer, Lehrer, Herausgeber, Redakteur und Lektor in einer Person. Seine bohemistischen Aktivitäten brachten ihn noch im Alter von 60 Jahren in Gestapo-Haft und in das Konzentrationslager Flossenbürg. Machácek überlebte dort nur Dank der Hilfe seiner tschechischen Mithäftlinge.

Es war eine der ersten in der Nachkriegs-Tschechoslowakei veröffentlichten Haftdokumentationen und der erste Erinnerungsbericht eines tschechischen Häftlings im KZ Flossenbürg. "Fridolín Machácek was considered an exemplary patriotic intellectual in the First Czechoslovak Republic: the director of the Pilsen City Museum was a historian, archivist, museologist, monument conservator, local historian, culture promoter, teacher, publisher, editor and lecturer in one person. His bohemian activities brought him into the In Gestapo custody at the age of 60 and in the Flossenbürg concentration camp, Machácek survived there only thanks to the help of his fellow Czech prisoners.

It was one of the first prison documentations published in post-war Czechoslovakia and the first memoir by a Czech prisoner in the Flossenbürg concentration camp. At the same time, however, Machácek had written the first historiography of the Flossenbürg concentration camp."
