"The Burgaw Train Depot is the oldest train depot, circa 1850, still standing in N.C. The Depot is part of the NC Civil War Trails and on the US National Civil War Trail. It was a significant location during the Civil War as it acted as a major communications center and an official prisoner exchange site. After the Civil War, it also became a stop on the longest rail line at the time, which was 161 miles from Wilmington to Raleigh. Today, the depot has been restored and renovated to showcase the historical value of the structure and houses a portion of the North Carolina Transportation Museum."
