A Geocaching Multi passes this monument in one of its waymarks. (visit link) The church (called a minecathedral) is very imposing. The mineworker statue in front of the church also has a story.

"The statue is a 1996 gift from the Italian community to the city of Genk in honor of 50 years of immigration. In 1946 the first Italian guest workers arrived to work in the Genk coal mines. 10 years later, the migration wave stopped because of the serious mining disaster in Marcinelle. But in those 10 years and the years that followed, the Italian community has grown and has become part of the Genk identity, which is put in the spotlight in this way."
