"The Wellness House Kay and Mike Birck Home of Hope in Hinsdale, designed to support and empower those affected by cancer, are currently planning renovations to the lower level to better serve their clients.
The area includes a more functional and intimate salon space and massage rooms designed to offer a warm, comfortable home-like environment that is both professional and flexible. Charles Vincent George Architects of Naperville donated the programming and design of new office and wellness space and made improvements to the salon.
"Our goal is to make our participants and their families feel welcome and safe," says Lisa Kolavennu, senior director of programs at Wellness House. "Chemo hair-loss can cause a significant response in some people. Through our Wig Salon and this space, we help people deal with the physical reminder of their illness. CVG and Bruce George understood that, and designed new massage rooms, offices and made improvements to our Salon space that recognized our needs."
"I'm a resident of Hinsdale and we've supported Wellness House over the years," says George, president and CEO of Charles Vincent George. "We've had several friends who have benefited from Wellness House cancer support services, and I realize there has been an increasing need. We wanted to provide a higher quality experience, both in terms of aesthetics and a space that was well-equipped to offer client-centered care."
Wellness House serves 60-70 participants a month in the wig boutique with the support of the American Cancer Society. The redesigned space will be multi-functional, allowing the center to offer a wider suite of services, including wellness tune ups, exercise consultation, professional massage, Reike and energy work. "Bruce made us think through things we wouldn't have thought of. I don't think we would have gotten very far without him, says Kolavennu. "And he treated us like one of his top clients. He is a truly caring professional."
