Après une visite de la structure et quelques explications distillées par Loïc Morvan, Paul Giacobbi a donc ouvert ce pont à la circulation, et tourner ainsi une page de plusieurs années de galère pour les automobilistes. L'ancien pont génois, construit en 1698, n'était plus du tout adapté à la circulation car doté d'une seule voie particulièrement étroite.

D'ailleurs de nombreux accidents s'y sont produits, causant de graves dommages à la structure. Pire encore, puisque l'on a souvenir d'accidents mortels. Et il était donc temps que l'ouvrage, classé au titre des monuments historiques, tout comme la chapelle, puisse être préservé.

Paul Giacobbi s'est félicité de cette construction moderne, reprenant également le modèle de parement de l'ancien édifice. « Ce pont, d'un montant de 8,5 millions d'euros, est important pour sécuriser la circulation.
