The town of Cupar is situated in the north-eastern part of the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland, and is a market town in a farming area. After its churchyards became full, a new cemetery was acquired on land to the south of the town at the foot of the Hill of Tarvit.

Entrance to the cemetery on the north-facing slope is on Ceres Road, with the older section being to the east alongside the road, and the newer section on acquired land to the west on a lower slope nearer the town.
