The centerpiece of the small Tom Staley Park in Apopka is this remnant of an old railway turntable that was used in the late 1800s. I couldn’t turn up any history of it after extensive online searches. The only information I have is from the marker at the location. It reads as follows:

The Florida Midland Railway used this Parkland for a “Train Turnaround” in the late 1890’s. The Turnaround was located inside the concrete ring. Train Turnarounds were used throughout the country in the 1800’s. They were used to reverse the Train Engine for a trip in the opposite direction.

Enjoy the park!
