1896 the city council decided to unite the separate village of Traben with the city of Trarbach. A bridge was needed. The announcement to build the bridge won the Art Nouveau architect Bruno Möhring. In 1897 he started to build the bridge. During this job Bruno Möhring fell in love with the city and came back to built some more. A lot of the Art Nouveau buildings in Traben-Trarbach were built by Bruno Möhring.

Over the following decades the house became the number one address on the Moselle, frequented by famous comtemporaries of the early 20th century, such as Baron Richthofen, Count Anhalt, Lord Thyssen and the renowned German actor, Heinz Rühmann.

The hotel survived two World Wars and the overenthusiastic renovation which took place during the post-war periods with no damage – a little like the Sleeping Beauty!
