"It is a work of outstanding monumental interest. According to Juan Luis Álvarez del Busto (official chronicler of Cudillero), the Town Hall was established –at least since 1870– on the site occupied by the castle of the Omaña (feudal lords of the place), known as El Palación or El Castiallu, ceded between 1820 and 1823 to the City Council by its owner, the Count of Revillagigedo, in exchange for the payment of three pesetas per year as a census or perpetual transfer.
As the building was dilapidated, it was decided to entrust the construction of the Town Hall to Andrés Coello, a renowned provincial architect. The plans, dated July 1, 1866 and signed, apparently as a master builder, by Jaime Montes, are kept in the Municipal Archive. According to them, the building was distributed as follows: on the ground floor, a court of the peace, a children's school, and toilet facilities; and in the first, meeting room, secretariat and office of the president. Access was from what is now called Plaza de San Pedro by a stairway parallel to its main facade."
