The parish of Collessie covers an area in the Howe of Fife, a fertile plain in the centre of the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland. It contains the village of Collessie, and hamlets of Giffordtown, Charlottetown, and Edenstown. It is in Charlottetown that this obelisk can be found in the form of the parish's war memorial, a twelve feet high granite obelisk on top of a four sided pedestal which contains the inscriptions and names. The inscription is on the west face and reads as follows:
'GIFFORDTOWN AND DISTRICT WAR MEMORIAL
IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF COLLESSIE PARISH WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919'
Also inscribed are 36 names from WWI, 5 names from WWII, and one from the Korean War.
The memorial is situated in front of the village hall on the eastern side of the B937 road at the junction of five roads.
