In 2019, the U.S. Postal Service created a postage stamp issue celebrating Depression-era post office murals. These were artistic embellishments added to post offices built during the Great Depression in conjunction with the Works Progress Administration, a New Deal program meant to provide work relief for the unemployed. The Deming post office was completed in 1936 with an official dedication ceremony held on May 29. In attendance was U.S. Postmaster James A. Farley (a name familiar to stamp collectors) and Senator Dennis Chávez (who also has appeared on a U.S. postage stamp).

About a year after the new post office building opened, a mural was added to the lobby. The mural was painted by Taos, NM artist Kenneth Miller Adams who had previously created the mural for Goodland, Kansas post office. The full name of the work is sometimes given as "Mountains and Yucca," the "decorative landscape characteristic of the southwest.” Although most descriptions of this landscape claim that it shows Cookes Range north of Deming, it actually depicts the Florida Mountains, southeast of Deming.
