Big Bend National Park follows the Rio Grande as it flows southeast, then bends to the northeast in a rugged and remote area of west Texas. The river flows through multiple canyons as it winds its way across a desert landscape that is dominated by the Chisos Mountains. It’s a popular destination for hikers and campers (and stargazers as it offers some of the clearest night skies around).

Santa Elena Canyon is a fissure in a shear, towering cliff through which the Rio Grande flows. The walls of the canyon are over 1500 ft. tall. It’s a favorite for canoeing and rafting, and there’s a short hiking trail that leads a about a half mile into the canyon affording the view on the stamp (if you don’t have a canoe).
