A post office in downtown Oklahoma City now honors civil rights icon Clara Luper by bearing her name.
Officials held a dedication ceremony Saturday at the post office near Northwest Sixth Street and Harvey Avenue.
"I'm so glad that we sat down here in Oklahoma City because if we had not sat down here, young people throughout the nation would have never stood up," Luper's daughter, Marilyn Hildreth, said.
In 1958, Luper and 13 students staged a sit-in at Katz Drug Store in Oklahoma City. The sit-in helped inspire protests across the South.
"We still have work to do. I want to start by saying thank you to Clara for all the work she did leading young people to stand up, sit down and use their voices," former U.S. Rep. Kendra Horn said.
