The plaque says, "The Julian Cemetery Association was incorporated in 1923 to prevent the building of a hotel which would have involve plowing over some pioneer's graves on part of this ten private land which had been, in fact, a cemetery for more than 50 years. Pioneers John McCain, Sr. (.073 Ac. Northerly Corner) and George Hoskings (1.89 Ac. Southerly slope) donated to the association land on which they maintained their family burial plots and had permitted other burials, the association then established the Julian pioneer cemetery."
