"La chiesa di San Lorenzo, edificata inizialmente con il nome di San Carlo, ha origini risalenti al medioevo, periodo durante il quale svolge la funzione di unica pieve urbana, prima dell'inurbamento della cattedrale di San Cassiano avvenuta nel XII secolo. La sua ubicazione originaria non corrisponde a quella attuale: con asse parallelo alla via Emilia, aveva la facciata sull'attuale piazza delle Erbe, mentre l'abside era rivolta sulla piazza maggiore. Superato poi il turbine napoleonico che ne aveva decretato la soppressione, sotto supplica dei parrocchiani, l'edificio sacro viene ripristinato: Michele Carranti, proprietario della chiesa di San Carlo, vende all'arciprete di San Lorenzo un edificio posto sulla strada di San Carlo, l'attuale via Mazzini. Viene eretto un edificio in pieno stile barocco, suddiviso in due ordini sovrapposti da un cornicione riportante la scritta "DIVO LAURENTIO D. M. DIC.", dedicata al santo e martire Lorenzo. Nella fascia inferiore vi è un semplice portale in cotto con cornici in mattoni, completo di timpano curvilineo; fra questo e l'architrave si colloca un'immagine in terracotta di San Carlo Borromeo. Nella fascia superiore si può notare invece un finestrone con architrave scuro. L'esterno, seppur privo di intonaco, mostra una bravura delle maestranze esecutrici e una cromia difficilmente riscontrabile in altri edifici della stessa tipologia. L'interno è costituito da una croce allungata, che assume l'aspetto attuale nel 1927, e all'incrocio dei quattro bracci, si innalza una piccola cupola; due soli altari laterali, oltre a quello maggiore, poco sopraelevati rispetto alla navata." The church of San Lorenzo, initially built with the name of San Carlo, has origins dating back to the Middle Ages, a period during which it served as the only urban parish church, before the urbanization of the cathedral of San Cassiano in the twelfth century. Its original location does not correspond to the current one: with an axis parallel to the Via Emilia, it had the facade on the current Piazza delle Erbe, while the apse was facing the main square. After passing the Napoleonic whirlwind that had decreed its suppression, at the request of the parishioners, the sacred building is restored: Michele Carranti, owner of the church of San Carlo, sells a building located on the road to San Carlo to the archpriest of San Lorenzo, the current via Mazzini. A building in full Baroque style was erected, divided into two superimposed orders by a cornice bearing the inscription "DIVO LAURENTIO D. M. DIC.", Dedicated to the saint and martyr Lorenzo. The interior consists of an elongated cross, which assumes its present appearance in 1927, and at the intersection of the four arms, a small dome rises; only two side altars, in addition to the main one, slightly higher than the nave.

Die Kirche San Lorenzo, die ursprünglich unter dem Namen San Carlo erbaut wurde, geht auf das Mittelalter zurück, eine Zeit, in der sie als einzige städtische Pfarrkirche diente, bevor die Kathedrale von San Cassiano im 12. Nach dem Überwinden des napoleonischen Wirbelsturms, der seine Unterdrückung angeordnet hatte, wird auf Wunsch der Gemeindemitglieder das Sakralgebäude restauriert: Michele Carranti, Besitzer der Kirche von San Carlo, verkauft ein Gebäude an der Straße nach San Carlo an den Erzpriester von San Lorenzo, die aktuelle Via Mazzini. Es wurde ein Gebäude im vollen Barockstil errichtet, das durch ein Gesims mit der Aufschrift "DIVO LAURENTIO D. M. DIC.", dem Heiligen und Märtyrer Lorenzo geweiht, in zwei übereinanderliegende Ordnungen unterteilt ist. Im unteren Band befindet sich ein einfaches Terrakotta-Portal mit Backsteinrahmen, komplett mit einem krummlinigen Tympanon; zwischen diesem und dem Architrav befindet sich ein Terrakotta-Bild von San Carlo Borromeo. Im oberen Band sieht man ein großes Fenster mit dunklem Architrav. Das Äußere, obwohl frei von Putz, zeigt das Können der ausführenden Arbeiter und eine Farbgebung, die bei anderen Gebäuden dieser Art nur schwer zu finden ist. Der Innenraum besteht aus einem langgestreckten Kreuz, das 1927 sein heutiges Aussehen annimmt, und am Schnittpunkt der vier Arme erhebt sich eine kleine Kuppel; nur zwei Seitenaltäre, zusätzlich zum Hauptaltäre, etwas höher als das Kirchenschiff.
