Bärnbach is the smallest city of the district of Voitsberg in the Austrian state of Styria . The city is popular for its church (designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser), manual glass manufacturing and coal mining (surface mining).
A bear is the heraldic animal of the city and that is why the group of bears is at the fountain in the northern part of the main square (Hauptplatz). It is the work of sculptor Alex Schinagl (1926-2011).The statue of the adult bear with two bear cubs are made from special concrete.
