Descriptif

Le Château-ferme de Roly est situé à Roly dans la province de Namur en Belgique. Dominant de sa masse imposante, la ferme-château, dont le donjon n'est autre que la tour des chevaliers, signe de la puissance des premiers seigneurs du lieu, la « thour de Rolliers », remonte au début du XIIIe siècle. Une maison (le manoir) y était adjoint. Par la suite, furent édifiés un vaste corps de logis et les communs : une immense grange, de nombreuses écuries, étables et porcheries, ainsi qu'une bergerie. La cour intérieure est défendue par trois tourelles. On y pénètre par deux portes cochères et des douves entourent les bâtiments aux côtés ouest et nord. Le millésime 1616 apposé au mur sud rappelle la grande restauration de cet ensemble qui avait subi les assauts des troupes françaises à l'époque de l'édification des forteresses de Philippeville et de Mariembourg. Le château était en ruine au début de 1700 et ce n'est qu'au cours des années 1746 à 1749 qu'on le transforma. Aujourd'hui propriété privée, c'est M. et Mme. Leone qui ont restauré une partie de ce patrimoine classé. Seule une petite partie du château est actuellement rénovée : le donjon est la seule partie habitée, la chapelle castrale entièrement rafraîchie accueillait parfois des expositions. Une autre réalisation du propriétaire est la transformation de la bergerie et de la brasserie en salle de réception. Le domaine exposait souvent le travail d'artistes et d'artisans qui étaient, accessoirement, autant d'occasions de découvrir l'architecture du bâtiment. L'immense grange accueillait un marché de Noël chaque année.

The Castel-Farm de Roly is located in Roly in the province of Namur in Belgium. Dominating its imposing mass, the farm-castle, whose keep is none other than the knight's tower, a sign of the power of the first lords of the place, the “thour de Rolliers”, dates back to the beginning of the 13th century. A house (the manor) was attached to it. Subsequently, a vast main building and the outbuildings were built: a huge barn, numerous stables, cowsheds and pigsties, as well as a sheepfold. The inner courtyard is defended by three turrets. It is entered through two porte-cocheres and a moat surrounds the buildings on the west and north sides. The 1616 vintage affixed to the south wall recalls the major restoration of this complex, which had been attacked by French troops at the time of the construction of the fortresses of Philippeville and Mariembourg. The castle was in ruins at the beginning of 1700 and it was not until the years 1746 to 1749 that it was transformed. Today privately owned, it is Mr. and Mrs. Leone who have restored part of this listed heritage. Only a small part of the castle is currently being renovated: the keep is the only inhabited part, the completely refreshed castle chapel sometimes hosted exhibitions. Another achievement of the owner is the transformation of the sheepfold and the brewery into a reception room. The estate often exhibited the work of artists and craftsmen who were, incidentally, so many opportunities to discover the architecture of the building. The huge barn hosted a Christmas market every year.
