The navigation school was built in 1907, incidentally on the former gallows hill.
At the top of the Navigation School's 25 meter high tower is a signal mast equipped with a time ball. The location of the navigation school on the hill has made it easy for the ships to see the Time Ball. It was dropped every day at 1 p.m. The Time Signal has been in use between 1907 and 1936.
A blue plaque from 2018 is located on the right side of the entrance stairs. The text is written in both Swedish and English.
Text on the plaque:
The building was designed by Georg Ringström as a nautical training collage and dates from 1907. On the top of the tower is a signal mast equipped with a time ball. The ball was dropped at specified intervals to communicate the exact time to ships in the harbour. Navigation was dependent on marine chronometers showing accurate time.
