This headstone is for Margaretta King, who is buried at the Erie Cemetery in Erie, Pennsylvania. The headstone only gives the years Ms. King lived, without the months or days. It states that she lived from 1821 to 1922. I could not find any additional information about her via an internet search, and so am unsure whether she was 100 years old or 101 years old when she died. Luella is buried next to two other graves with the last name King on the headstones, Wilson King (1805-1881) and Margaretta C. King (1858-1938), although there is no indication as to their relationships to Margaretta. May she rest in peace.

In 1821, the year Margaretta was born, James Monroe was president of the United States, George IV was King of the United Kingdom, and Pius VII was pope. That same year, the U.S. gained possession of the Florida Territory and admitted Missouri as a state. Throughout Margaretta's life many important national and world events occurred, including the rise of the railroads, the American Civil War, the end of slavery in the United States, and the First World War. In the year Margaretta died, America was beginning the "Roaring Twenties," Warren G. Harding was president, and construction was begun on Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. The United States made incredible progress during the span of her life.
