"La chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate è una chiesa sussidiaria di Sabbionara, frazione di Avio in Trentino. Fa parte della zona pastorale della Vallagarina e risale al XIV secolo.
Storia
La nobile famiglia Castelbarco fece costruire una prima chiesa a Sabbionara di Avio tra il 1319 ed il 1322. Tale edificio in origine venne orientato verso sud, ed era dotato di un'abside di piccole dimensioni. Dopo la sua erezione gli interni vennero decorati.
Un'importante documentazione scritta che cita l'edificio è presente in un atto testamentario del 1410, firmato da Azzone Francesco Castelbarco. Questo scritto descrive la chiesa come affidata a monaci benedettini. Il nobile venne probabilmente sepolto accanto alla chiesa.
A cavallo tra i secoli XVIII e XIX l'edificio venne modificato in modo sostanziale, mutandone l'orientamento e quindi distruggendo l'abside precedente per collocarvi la facciata con il portale di accesso.
Nel corso del primo conflitto mondiale la chiesa fu danneggiata dall'utilizzo per i militari, e solo dopo la fine della guerra si procedette col suo restauro e venne restituita alle sue primitive funzioni.
Un nuovo restauro si è avuto all'inizio del XXI secolo.
Descrizione
La chiesa si trova nei pressi del castello di Avio e presenta orientamento verso sud. La facciata è semplice, a capanna con due spioventi. Il portale è architravato e racchiuso in una più ampia cornice sormontata da un arco a tutto sesto.
La sala è a navata unica, rettangolare, con un soffitto a vista costituito da capriate in legno. L'altar maggiore è ligneo e le pareti sono decorate con affreschi quattrocenteschi." Wikipedia (

The church of Sant'Antonio Abate is a subsidiary church of Sabbionara, a hamlet of Avio in Trentino. It is part of the pastoral area of ??Vallagarina and dates back to the 14th century.
History
The noble Castelbarco family had a first church built in Sabbionara di Avio between 1319 and 1322. This building was originally oriented towards the south, and had a small apse. After his erection the interiors were decorated.
An important written documentation that mentions the building is present in a testamentary deed of 1410, signed by Azzone Francesco Castelbarco. This writing describes the church as entrusted to Benedictine monks. The noble was probably buried next to the church.
At the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the building was substantially modified, changing its orientation and therefore destroying the previous apse to place the facade with the access portal.
During the First World War the church was damaged by use for the military, and only after the end of the war was it restored and returned to its original functions.
A new restoration took place at the beginning of the 21st century.
Description
The church is located near the castle of Avio and has a southern orientation. The façade is simple, gabled with two slopes. The portal is architraved and enclosed in a larger frame surmounted by a round arch.
The room has a single, rectangular nave with an exposed ceiling made up of wooden trusses. The high altar is wooden and the walls are decorated with fifteenth-century frescoes.
