STORIA
Quando Lagosanto nel 1013 passò dal dominio di Ravenna a quello di Pomposa, esisteva già una chiesa pievana. Nella bolla papale del 1013 Benedetto VIII donava a Pomposa tutto il territorio ad essa circostante, Lagosanto compreso, che era indicato come massa e pieve. Con il termine massa si indicava tutto il territorio laghese, decentrato rispetto al monastero e fuori dai confini dell' Isola Pomposiana (l' area compresa tra i fiumi Po di Volano, Po di Goro e il mare). Il legame inscindibile tra il monastero di Pomposa e la villa di Lagosanto è testimoniato dal titolo stesso degli statuti pomposiani del 1295: «Statuta ed Ordinamenta Insule Pomposiane et Ville Laci Sancti». Lagosanto dipendeva dal monastero di Pomposa non solo nel temporale, ma anche in campo ecclesiastico. È però presumibile che, a seguito delle decisioni assunte dal Concilio Laterano I, la competenza sulla cura delle anime sia passata dal XII secolo al vescovo di Comacchio. La chiesa originaria, che sorgeva dove è collocata l' attuale parrocchiale, era di piccole dimensioni, capace di accogliere circa duecento persone; nel 1632 il consiglio della comunità di Lagosanto deliberò la costruzione di una nuova chiesa, da costruire sullo stesso luogo di quella precedente, che fu consacrata il 4 gennaio 1644.

HISTORY
When Lagosanto in 1013 passed from the domain of Ravenna to that of Pomposa, there was already a parish church. In the papal bull of 1013, Benedict VIII donated all the surrounding territory to Pomposa, including Lagosanto, which was referred to as mass and parish. The term massa meant the whole of the lake area, decentralized from the monastery and outside the boundaries of the Pomposiana Island (the area between the rivers Po di Volano, Po di Goro and the sea). The inseparable link between the monastery of Pomposa and the villa of Lagosanto is testified by the very title of the Pomposian statutes of 1295: "Statuta and Ordinamenta Insule Pomposiane et Ville Laci Sancti". Lagosanto depended on the Pomposa monastery not only in the storm, but also in the ecclesiastical field. However, it is presumable that, following the decisions taken by the Lateran Council I, the competence over the care of souls passed from the 12th century to the bishop of Comacchio. The original church, which stood where the current parish church is located, was small in size, capable of accommodating about two hundred people; in 1632 the council of the Lagosanto community approved the construction of a new church, to be built on the same site as the previous one, which was consecrated on January 4, 1644.
