The bank building is a two storey rendered brick and reinforced concrete banking chamber with a hipped, corrugated galvanised iron roof constructed in 1939-40. The bank closed on 20 February 1942 following the first Japanese air raid and was badly damaged by bombing on 10 June 1942. The bank was restored and reopened in 1946 later becoming the Westpac Bank
