Settlers first arrived in what is now Republic County in 1870. The missionary priest
Father Louis Mollier attended to them from St. Joseph. The first Catholic Church in Belleville was constructed in 1901. This beautiful building replaced it in 1926. A parish hall and religious education classrooms were built in 1967. A new rectory was built in 1988, and an addition in 1994 connected the hall to the church building. For those interested, the cross atop the church spire is US Coast and Geodetic Survey benchmark
KF0925.
