"The Government House (Palazzo del Governo) is the landmark Italian building in Kos. It was built in the years 1927-1929 in the modernist Moorish style used in Eritrea and Libya, based on designs by the Italian architect Fiorestano Di Fausto. During the Italian occupation it housed the fascist administration. Today it houses the sub-prefecture of Kos, Law Courts and Police Headquarters.

In the centre of the building is a cool courtyard overlooked by balconies which naturally cool the building using the airflow off the sea. This building was very much a symbol of Fascist authority with the inscription Legum omnes servi sumus at the rear of the building overlooking the Plane Tree of Hippocrates, proclaiming the dominance of the law, and the ceremonial steps on the corner opposite the Fortress of Nerazia - the pebble stone mosaic incorporates the arms of the House of Savoy, Kings of Italy."

from tripadvisor.com:

A lovely Italian style building on the waterfront just south of the centre of Kos Town and opposite the castle. It now houses the police station, so one could only appreciate the place from the outside. A great building to take photographs of especially on the harbour facing side (east).

The west side (rear) of the Palazzo faces Plantanos square and I was struck by the Latin inscription on its back wall; Legum Omnes Servi Sumus (We are all servants of the law). Very appropriate for a police station curiously. A stunning building which adds character to the multifaceted history of Kos Town.
Type: Main Office (HQ Building)

Visit Instructions:
To log a visit, you must post a photo of you in front of the building described, with your GPS in the photo. No drive by photos.

I have had NO problems with taking photos of Police stations but please respect the fact that some services may be nervous about having their photo taken and inquire as to why... I have found that once things are explained they are more than happy to let me photograph the building, crest, chief... (they are people too!)
