The Crucifixion of Christ - Ottawa, KS, USA - Statues of Religious Figures on Waymarking.com

Mt. Calvary Cemetery, on the east side of Ottawa, is the final rest for about eight hundred souls. The centerpiece of the cemetery is this set of four white marble sculptures depicting the crucifixion of Christ. Three life-sized figures stand or kneel at the base of the cross on which Christ is hanging. The art is set on a tall rock platform with an altar in front, and is surrounded by a short rock wall.

Jesus Christ is the central figure of Christianity. According to the canonical gospels, Jesus was arrested and tried by the Sanhedrin, sentenced by Pontius Pilate to be scourged, and finally crucified by the Romans on request of the Jewish religious leaders. His resurrection three days later, now celebrated as Easter, is the most significant event in Christianity.
