From the site: "Upon retirement from 30 years of teaching elementary school, I was looking for a fun project and a way to contribute to our wonderful school community when I read an article in the local paper about Little Free Libraries. In lieu of the traditional retirement gifts, I asked friends and family to contribute. Retired custodian, friend, and master woodworker Dave Carreiro built the library, and my sweet and talented niece, Maddy Talmage, painted it. We chose "forest" scenes from favorite children's books (Danny, the Champion of the World ~ Little House in the Big Woods ~ Where the Wild Things Are) since it is located in the Santa Margarita Community Forest (smcf.org) at the entry to Santa Margarita Elementary School. The library has two sections: a smaller section for "big" readers and a larger section for little readers! A special thank you to Beverly Gingg and the California Conservation Corps for clearing a spot in the forest and digging the holes--and to my husband Randy (also a retired educator) for the stand that is strong and steadfast, just like him! "A book is a present you can open again and again.""
