The single storey brick home has a central entrance tower and encircling timber verandah and was designed to accommodate destitute war veterans of the British forces in Victoria.
In 1891 the United Services Home for ex soldiers and sailors of the Empire was opened in Drysdale with an initial eight residents. The oldest was said to had served at Waterloo (1815) whilst many others served in the Crimea 1853-56. The home closed in 1922 and is now a private residence.
It is one of only a few private residences with a cannon in the drive-way
