The engine is fairly new for miniature trains. The Engineer of the train said the current locomotive was bought in 1987 and that the engine was converted to used propane fuel instead of gasoline. The paint on the engine looked really bright and shiny, so either they really pay attention to polishing the engine, or it recently got a new paint job when it was converted to use propane fuel. The rest of the passenger cars appear to be clean and in excellent repair too,
The ticket office and train platform is located close to the San Antonio Zoo, so either before or after taking young children for a miniature train ride, you should consider a walk through the Zoo, too. To that point, this miniature train is officially operated by the San Antonio Zoo and is known as the San Antonio Zoo Eagle. Before 1957, this train used to be named the Brackenridge Eagle, but now it goes by San Antonio Zoo Eagle. A miniature train ride by any other name is still fun and kids don't really care what the train's name is as long as the whistle blows and they get to see different things and wave at the people they pass.
