This is a small, shield-shaped boundary marker inscribed ‘W. H. P. 1896’. It is one of a long series of similar parish boundary markers around West Ham Parish, several of which still survive. It is the next one clockwise after the more substantial boundary stone marker on the west side of High Road, Leytonstone (see Waymark WMDKMF).

The marker was placed here to mark the boundary between West Ham and Cann Hall parishes. Cann Hall was a short-lived parish, formed from part of Wanstead parish in 1894 but abolished in 1956. The boundary is still a real one as it marks the boundary between the London Boroughs of Newham and Waltham Forest. It is also the point where Leytonstone Road becomes High Road, Leytonstone. This marker was placed after the construction of the oldest adjacent surviving house, which was built in 1875.
Type of survey mark: Metal plate.
