This will be the new building for Department of Informatics, University of Oslo.
The old building, finished 1988 was decleared
too small already two years before it was finished.
So the first workgroup on a additional building was set down 1986. Nothing much happened before late 1990ties
and early 2000. Money for planning and preprojecting
was raised, and in 2005 the money for building was raised.
Early january 2006 the machines rolled in on the stage.
The building will be used for research and studies in
computer science at the University of Oslo. Of course
it will also contain all other support facilities as
a café, library, auditoriums, lecture rooms, computer rooms, data centre.
Even a student pub will be found there.
The creec running underground today will be given a prominent place in the surroundings of the new
building. Lots of nice outdoor space will be made around the building.
The new building will also be connected to IFI 1, the 'old' building.
The building itself is about 24000 square meeters.
170 meters long by 21 meters in width. The long stretch will have 4 floors above ground. In the northern end
it will raise 10 floors high.
The projec has its own website (in Norwegian) with lots of pictures and drawings.
