A benefaction board of 1704 in St George's church, Lower Brailes, listing the bequests of a Francis Capell to the poor of the parish.
Under the will of Francis Capell dated in 1704 the sum of 3 is annually distributed among Protestants only on Nov 5th namely 1 in gowns to poor widows and 2 in bread to poor widows and families. (Ref - A Topographical Dictionary of England, Volume 1, Samuel Lewis, 1811, p292)

The board reads -
A GIFT
OF CHARITY
To ye Poor of BRAILES
Bequeathed by the last Will &
Testament of Mr FRANCIS CAPELL
bearing date the Second Day of May
Anno Dom 1704. As Followeth,

ITEM. I Give and Bequeath unto the Poor
of BRAILES Ten Pounds to be distributed amongst
them, As my Funerall Dole as soon as I am Dead. ITEM
I Give and Bequeath unto Fifteen of the Poorest Protestant
Widdows in BRAILES Twelve Pence a piece Yearly for
Ever. To be paid them upon the first Fifth Day of November The
first Payment to be made upon the first Fifth Day of November
next after my Decease To be laid out in Bread And also I Give Yearly for
Ever to Two Poor Protestant Widdows in BRAILES Two Gowns at Ten shillings
a piece And if there shall not be so many Poor Protestant Widdows in BRAILES
Then my Will and Desire is The Overplus of the Money shall be distributed amongst
the Poor Protestant Families in Bread ITEM IGive and Bequeath unto Twenty of the
Poorest Protestant Families Twelve Pence a piece Yearly for ever . To be also Paid them upon
the Fifth Day of November ye first Payment likewise to begin upon ye first Fifth Day of November
next after my Decease And also Five Shillings worth in Bread more The same time Yearly for
Ever. To be given to the Poor Families in BRAILES aforesaid AND my Will and Desire is
That the said RICHARD CAPELL shall Yearly Pay or cause to be Paid, The Legacies
given To the Poor of BRAILES aforesaid as is above Expressed and Set Down
out of the Rents Issues and Profits of the said Yard Land of Court Land during
my Wifes naturall Life AND after her Decease the same shall be Paid
out of the Rents Issues and Profits of the Yard Land of Free Land
for Ever. AND my Farther Will is That ye said Legacies Bequeath'd
Th the Poor of BRAILES aforesaid shall be a Rent Charge upon
the said Yard Land of Free Land for Ever after my Wifes
Decease and be for Ever Paid out of the Profits of
the same AND my Will is That ye Legacies
given to the Poor of BRAILES Be
Paid into the Ministers
Hands for the time
being and to be
distributed at
his and my
Executors
discretion.
