The architecture of the Castle recalls ten centuries of the history of the Aure Valley. Built on the wall which enclosed the Neste du Louron district, it served as protection for the neighboring sanctuary dedicated to Saint-Exupère. This military and hospital building served as a commandery. It takes the name of Château de Camou ("land of water") because of the humidity of the place. Its central tower surmounted by a wooden steeple (19th century) served as a family astronomical observatory.

L'architecture du Château rappelle dix siècles de l'histoire de la Vallée d'Aure. Bâti sur l'enceinte qui clôturait le quartier de la Neste du Louron, il servait de protection au sanctuaire voisin dédié à Saint-Exupère. Cet édifice militaire et hospitalier faisait office de commanderie. Il prend le nom du Château de Camou ("terre d'eau") du fait de l'humidité des lieux. Sa tour centrale surmontée d'un clocheton en bois (XIXè siècle) servit d'observatoire astronomique familial.
