The Saint Lary Soulan website offers two very comprehensive documents on the history of the resort and its tourist activity:
Some details should be provided on the creation of the cable car: the charismatic mayor of the time Vincent Mir, father of Isabelle (vice Olympic champion in Grenoble in 1968, vice world champion in 1970 in Val Gardena and winner of 9 races in the cup of the world) and uncle of Jean-Henri Mir (current mayor of Saint Lary Soulan) decides in 1954 to undertake the ascent of Pla d'Adet on mule back with friends, weapons and luggage. Once at the top, his idea of ??building a ski resort took shape, and it was on March 4, 1957 that the cable car was inaugurated under the name of Pic Lumière.
It was considered at the time to be the fastest and most comfortable cable car in the world.

Saint-Lary-Soulan results from the merger of the municipalities of Saint-Lary and Soulan in 1963, which entered into force on January 1, 1964, merger carried out to allow the extension of the ski resort at Pla d'Adet for the construction of cable cars from Saint-Lary, the ski areas of the town being located in the Soulan exclave.

Le site Internet de Saint Lary Soulan propose deux documents très complets sur l'histoire de la station et son activité touristique :
Quelques précisions sont à apporter sur la création du téléphérique : le maire charismatique de l'époque Vincent Mir, père d'Isabelle (vice championne olympique à Grenoble en 1968, vice championne du monde en 1970 à Val Gardena et victorieuse de 9 courses en coupe du monde) et oncle de Jean-Henri Mir (maire actuel de Saint Lary Soulan) décide d'entreprendre en 1954 la montée du Pla d'Adet à dos de mulet avec amis, armes et bagages. Une fois arrivé au sommet son idée de construire une station de ski prend forme, et c'est le 4 Mars 1957 que le téléphérique est inauguré sous le nom de Pic Lumière.
Il fut considéré à l'époque comme le téléphérique le plus rapide et le plus confortable du monde.
