" The 15 cm RK 72' ('RK' = 'Ring Kanone') gun appeared in 1872 to replace the old 25 pound and 15 cm K C/64 bronze guns. Krupp's mastery of the construction of fretted steel barrels allowed this company to offer a more efficient alternative to the guns that had dominated the French artillery in 1870, with a raised frame.

This gun was of course obsolete in 1914, but it was used on the front in the ranks of the FussArtillerie in order to satisfy the heavy artillery needs of the position war alongside modern equipment. Its relatively small range was however certainly in handicap in the combat conditions of the Great War."
