St. Barbara Parish (Roman Catholic) was built to serve Polish immigrants in Bridgeport after the original Polish parish in the neighborhood became overcrowded. This building was built as an addition to the parish school in 1924. In addition to the auditorium, it originally contained a "six-lane bowling alley, billiard room, and kitchen." (
