Originally built in 1789 on an acre of land donated to the town by John Hancock for that purpose, the church was moved across the street to its present site in 1827. The church is a simple rectangular auditorium. The gable of the ridge roof faces Main Street. Fenestration is of varied styles and irregularly spaced. The entrance is enclosed in a gabled wing that projects from the facade. The double entrance doors are framed by a Georgian architrave with a broken triangular pediment and partially engaged urn ornament. Enclosing this is a large pediment. The gable of the entrance projection has a simple cornice and fan window. The base of the spire begins at the junction of the auditorium and the entrance projection. At the four corners of this base are octagonal pinnacles. The second stage of the tower is an octagonal bell housing with round arched louvered openings in the four major sides. This stage is topped by the octagonal spire.
