La journée nationale de la Résistance a eu lieu mercredi 27 mai 2020 pour commémorer les 77 ans de la création du conseil national de la résistance. À cette occasion, quelques membres du Parti communiste se sont réunis devant le monument de l’ancienne prison, place de la mairie, à Saint-Lô, dans le respect des espacements sociaux.

Les participants à cette cérémonie ont rendu hommage aux résistants saint-lois fusillés durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Ils « étaient apprenti, étudiant, ouvriers, cheminots et pour la plupart très jeunes. Ils combattaient surtout dans les rangs des Francs-tireurs et partisans Français (les FTPF), formation de combat du Front national pour la libération et l’indépendance de la France, organisation créée par le PCF dont ils étaient le plus souvent sympathisants, sinon membres adhérents », a souligné dans son allocution Jacky Rihouet.

Douze résistants saint-lois ont ainsi été exécutés par l’ennemi nazi. « Ils osèrent résister quand tout semblait perdu. Réunis aujourd’hui dans notre souvenir, ils sont l’orgueil de notre peuple qui ne plie pas devant l’abominable. »
