Sequiota Park has been a favorite outdoor destination since before it became a State Fish Hatchery in 1920. The park was miles from Springfield, but train service on the Chadwick Branch of the Frisco Railway made it a popular day-trip, perfect for an afternoon of picnicking and exploring. Sequiota Park was acquired by the Springfield Park Board in 1959. A popular feature is Sequiota Cave, home to migratory Gray Bats and accessible only by permit. Two smaller caves nearby are open to the public.
